In celebration of 354 years of Thám hoa Vũ Thạnh’s birth year(1664-2018)(Thám hoa-the third highest academic title in the old educational system), The Center for Scientific and Cultural Activities Van Mieu-Quoc Tu Giam will organize a Scientific Seminar “Thám hoa Vũ Thạnh-Life and Career” at The Front Building, Thai Hoc Section, Special National Landmark Van Mieu-Quoc Tu Giam, 58 Quoc Tu Giam street, Dong Da district, Hanoi. The seminar will be carried out at 8:30, December 12, 2018 and discuss Vu Thanh’s contributions to Vietnamese culture and education.

Vũ Thạnh (1664-?), he was a native of Đan Loan village, Đường An district(now Đan Loan village, Nhân Quyền commune, Bình Giang district, Hải Dương province). Later he moved to Báo Thiên precint, Thọ Xương district. He was a well-known scholar, as well as an educator during late 17^th Century and early 18^th Century.

When he was 22, he passed the Royal examination and was awarded the academic title Thám hoa in 1685(the nation was under the rule of King Lê Hy Tông). After that, he worked as a civil mandarin holding the following positions Hanlin Compiler In-Waiting, Lễ khoa Đô Cấp sự trung(Minister of Rites),  Principal of Quoc Tu Giam, Bồi tụng(Deputy Prime Minister).

At the seminar, 27 reports of scientists will be discussed. The reports cover the following topics:

1. The cultural and social background of Dai Viet; Thang Long during 17^th and 18^th Century.
2. The homeland and family of Thám Hoa Vũ Thạnh
3. Thám Hoa Vũ Thạnh-Life and Career.
4. His contributions to culture and education in 17^th and 18^th Century.

The seminar offers people a good chance to gain a better understanding about Vũ Thạnh- a great Confucian scholar, as well as his career and significant contributions to the nation.
