On the day of 100 years of the last Confucian (1919 – 2019), the Center for Scientific and Cultural Activities Van Mieu – Quoc Tu Giam organized “Van Mieu – Quoc Tu Giam and Confucian education of Vietnam” seminar at Tien Duong House of the Special National Landmark Van Mieu – Quoc Tu Giam.

The researchers and delegates from different centers of research took counsel together and discussed three  topics covered in 22 research reports:

1. 1. The history of Confucian education of Vietnam
2. 2. Van Mieu – Quoc Tu Giam with a role and position as a national school
3. 3. Educational and examinational tradition of different areas

At the seminar, the researchers and delegates discussed ebulliently the value of culture of Confucian education in  Vietnamese history, as well as,  it’s role in modern education. Experiences of history and results of Confucian education directed people to “accomplished virtue” and “attained talent” and spirit to serve a nation. Nowadays, there are many changes to education, the nation and human culture, which impacts Vietnam’s interactions with other nations.

PhD. Le Xuan Kieu – Director of the Center for Scientific and Cultural Activities Van Mieu – Quoc Tu Giam spoke : “Through 844 years of development, the mission of “fostering vitality” shouldered through ups and downs of education and examination. Moreover, each class of virtuous and upright scholars were trained by Confucian education. They were eminent scholars, celebrities of culture with their contributions and talent and dignity which had a strong attachment to our nation’s destiny”

Through  research reports and opinions, the experiences of examination and education and suggestion of present education were brought out to honour human culture, tradition of fondness of learning of a nation and the pride of Van Mieu – Quoc Tu Giam

PhD. Dang Kim Ngoc – The member of Vietnam Cultural heritage Association, the former of Director of the Center for Scientific and Cultural Activities Van Mieu – Quoc Tu Giam shared that: “Over 700 years, Quoc Tu Giam in Thang Long school contributed to train thousands of scholars for a nation, provided the staff of mandarins with knowledge and skill to manage a nation. Especially, the staff of Confucian mandarins with knowledge were educated in Quoc Tu Giam to contribute to make Vietnamese characteristic of Vietnam”
