On April 19, 2019, the task of planning for preservation, renovation and restoration of the National Special Landmark Van Mieu – Quoc Tu Giam was approved by the Prime Minister. This is a specific plan to preserve and promote the value of special national historical and artistic architecture relics, s cultural and scientific center, and preserving and promoting the value of the world documentary heritage, of important tourist destinations throughout the capital and the whole country.
Research and planning focuses on the historical and artistic architectural landmark Van Mieu-Quoc Tu Giam with a total area of 54,331 m2 including the inner areas, Ho Van and Giam Garden. Important areas of interest include values of tangible, intangible cultural heritage, documentary heritage, management, conservation and promotion of monuments. Urban, socio-economic and population factors, the current state of the technical infrastructure around the monument, as well as, the relationship with the relics, works, tourist sites and cultural heritage in the region for collaboration, and tourist development is also considered during planning phases.
Thereby, the goal is to preserve the historical, cultural and architectural values of Van Mieu - Quoc Tu Giam. In addition, Van Mieu - Quoc Tu Giam will remain place to introduce and honor Vietnamese education in association with the typical celebrities, intellectuals of the country. On the other hand, it is important to control the number of visitors to best preserve the relics and the socio-economic activities of the area surrounding the monument. This concern should be considered when promoting the value of the monument area as an attractive historical-cultural tourist destination, and connecting with other tourist sites of Hanoi city on the basis of promoting the value of relics associated with sustainable tourism development.
Planning includes component projects: Site clearance and relocating to protection landmarks; conservation, renovation, restoration, embellishment of original architectural items; construction of auxiliary works and technical infrastructure works in the relic area; preserving and promoting the value of intangible cultural heritage and cultural heritage; promoting heritage values associated with sustainable tourism development.
